From Melbourne via Princess Highway and Bairnsdale (between 4.5 and 5 hours, best if your starting point is the eastern suburbs):

-Great Alpine Highway (B500) to Omeo (abt. 1.5 hrs)

-Continue north on C543 towards Mitta Mitta and Anglers Rest. Stay left at the Benambra turnoff towards Tallangatta (about 1/3 hour more)

-When you hit Anglers Rest, all there is is the Blue Duck Inn. Just past that is the wooden bridge over the Cobungra river. On your right is the campground. Go a few hundred meters and on your left is a steep road with two blue horse riding signs, one of which is "The Willows".

-Go up the steep road (Callaghans Road) for 1.24 ks. Just as you top the rise it turns to gravel. Just past that is a sign for "Bundara Cabins". That's NOT us!! We're the next place on the right, just past the green poly water tank. Look downhill and you'll see a sea of cream colored metal roofing. THAT'S US!

From Melbourne via Hume Highway (between 4.5 and 5 hours, best if you're starting point is northern Melbourne area):

-M31 north to C522 (Glenrowan/Myrtleford rd.

-To T intersection at B500, then south to Myrtleford.

-Left just before Myrtleford on the Tunnel road (C527) to the Mt. Beauty road, or you can use C534 Happy Valley road just as you get into Myrtleford.

-Right on C531/Kiewa Valley highway to Mt. Beauty.

-Through Mt. Beauty and over the Falls Creek road (C531) which goes over the tops and through the best part of the Victorian Alps (about 1 & a quarter hrs.) Don't take that road if the weather is bad, however. It can snow and/or be very foggy or windy.

-Once over the tops, go right at the T on the Omeo Highway (C543) towards Omeo, but turn right just past the Anglers Rest sign, up Callaghans Road, with the horse riding signs. (about 20 minutes) If you hit the wooden bridge and the Blue Duck Inn, you've past it by a few hundred meters. Once on Callaghans Road follow the instructions above.

From Albury-Wodonga (about 2 hrs 45 min):

-Drive east from Wodonga south on B400 (Murray Valley highway) to C531 (Kiewa Valley highway).

-Take that to Mt. Beauty, then follow the above directions in the Hume highway section.

Don't Forget:

We are extremely remote, which is why you're coming! The Blue Duck Inn Hotel is walking distance (2k), and is open most summer afternoons and evenings, serving lunch, dinner, and a full bar. Otherwise the closest market is in Omeo, 1/2 hour drive away. There you can buy food and liquor, or visit a bakery or cafe, or get petrol or car service. Remember, however, that it is a small  rural town, and prices are likely to be higher than you would pay in Bairnsdale, Mt. Beauty or Bright, etc. We suggest bringing all your food and liquor beforehand. Its a perfect place to just hang out, go for a drive, go fishing, read, paint, bike ride, etc.

Mobile Phones: Telstra phones MAY work intermittently in the area. If you have any other Telco mobile phone, figure it will probably NOT work.

Solar Power considerations: It might seem obvious to some, but not others, so just to clarify: electrical heating & cooling is extremely power hungry, and will kill the house batteries of a solar system rather quickly. What that means to you is no hair dryers, no microwave, no space heaters, etc. It also means that while you will have a really nice fridge, access to our freezer, which requires vastly more power, is by request when we are not at the property. So, if you think you'll need a freezer, no worries, just please let us know in advance so we can turn it on.
